When I went to culinary school seasoning everything was beaten into us. The two things we used the most were salt and pepper. The biggest mistake that most of the student's made is not to season enough. That's not a problem for me because I'm a salt fiend. I love salt, it's my best friend, if I could date it I probably would, heck at this point I'd probably marry it. I digress. I've never been afraid of using it generously. I use salt on everything! Get a slice of water melon, cantaloupe and throw a little dash of salt on it. Sprinkle steaks and meat with tons of it, then once it's on the plate sprinkle some more on.
My world came tumbling down the day that I took the job at an assisted living facility. I was told no salt. We are not allowed to cook with salt. I've searched for the two years that I've worked there to try to find a decent substitute. I didn't like cooking without salt until I found this product. It's called Lawry's Salt Free 17. It's 17 herbs and spices and no salt. Once you use it you won't believe how you can't tell that you didn't cook with salt. It is incredible.
I'm trying to lose some weight myself now and I know salt has a big
effect on ones weight. Yesterday I went to the grocery store to see if I could find the salt free seasoning but was barraged with many other kinds. I was also in a rush and find the spice racks very daunting sometimes, I possibly missed it. So I ordered some from
Spice Place.
I don't know that I'll ever give up salt completely. Actually it's pretty impossible to do it unless you eat nothing out of a can, package etc. I'm trying to do that but more on that some other time. By reducing my salt hopefully it will help me lose some weight.
